Early Energy Medicine Pioneer

I read some things about an early 1900’s energy medicine pioneer, Harold Saxton Burr that I would like to share with you.  He was a professor at Yale School of Medicine starting in 1929, published several papers on the nervous system and 93 papers on the role of electricity in human development and disease.

At the time that Burr was doing his research on energy fields, they were very out of fashion.  Now, as scientists are getting interested in energy medicine again, his work is showing its real value.

He believed that “fields of life” are the basic blueprints for all life and that these fields reflect mental and physical conditions.  Therefore the fields were useful for diagnostic purposes.  Obviously he was right because we have MRIs and other devices that use electricity and magnetism to find out what is going on inside our bodies.

In the 1950s he studied trees by hooking them up to recording voltmeters.  He found that he could detect their electric fields and that their fields changed in advance of changing weather and other atmospheric phenomena.

The book I am reading mentions two areas where he focused his attention.  In 1935 he showed how he could detect when a woman ovulated by measuring the electrical potential between one finger from each hand on a daily basis.  Other scientists couldn’t duplicate his experiments, so he kept working until they could.  It turned out that other functions in the body also produced changes in electrical potential.  Once they figured out how to filter them out, they could reliably detect ovulation.  There was even a US patent awarded in 1975 for an electrical circuit based on Burr’s work.

The other area mentioned in this book is in early cancer detection.  Burr was convinced that diseases would manifest in the energy field before symptoms showed up in the body.  His work was later confirmed by other scientists who found that electrical conductance was significantly higher in tumors than in healthy tissue.  In later stages of the disease, the conductance drops as the tissues deteriorate.

His work was started back in the 1930s, more than 70 years ago.

The significance for me is that there is real scientific proof of the existence of the human body’s energy fields, and has been for a long time.  The next thing is to scientifically prove that these energy fields can be manipulated through the use of magnets, far-infrared, and various energy practices like Reiki and Pranic Healing.  I’m sure I will be posting more from this book, since this information came from chapter 1.

Energy Medicine: The Scientific Basis

BTW, the book I’m reading is Energy Medicine: The Scientific Basis by James L. Oschman.

Health versus Wellness

There has always been a battle between traditional western medicine and so-called alternative approaches to wellness. The most traditional on the one side say that alternative methods (like massage or energy work) might feel nice but they don’t do anything. The more radical on the other side say that doctors only know what the drug companies teach them.

Before I go any farther, I need to tell you that I am a massage therapist and I am very interested in energy work. I have friends who are doctors and I believe in their desire to do good. Western medicine is excellent when it comes to critical life and death situations, such as stitching you back together again after an accident or something. I think their education is lacking when it comes to everyday health, or wellness. Now I know why and I am going to share that with you.

Back in the 1800s there were three scientists with three theories as to the cause of disease. Everyone knows the name of Louis Pasteur but few people have probably heard of Antoine Bechamp or Claude Bernard.

Louis Pasteur pushed the idea that disease is caused by germs.  As you well know, his ideas won out and now we have all sorts of drugs to deal specifically with bacteria and viruses.  We also have things like antibacterial soap to wash our hands, Lysol to kill anything that might be moving on the counter-top, and chlorine to kill your water.  I don’t need to go further into his theories because we live them everyday.

Antoine Bechamp promoted the theory of pleomorphism. He held the view that microorganisms can go through different stages of development and they can evolve into various growth forms within their life cycle.  More simply put, cells can change and become germs which cause disease.

Claude Bernard also believed that microbes can change and further stated that it is the environment that the microbe is in that causes the change.  So, according to Bernard, the environment in our bodies is the cause of all disease, not the microbes themselves.  This is the basis of the wellness field.  Massage, chiropractic, energy healing, sound healing, meditation, you name it, the focus is on improving the environment inside the body.

The thing that you don’t hear about is that Louis Pasteur, before he died, admitted that Claude Bernard was right all along.  Germs don’t matter.  The environment is what’s important.

This gives you a new perspective on chronic conditions like cancer, autism, multiple sclerosis, and Alzheimers and other similar disorders .  I’m not a doctor, but take a step back and look at any health problems you may have and think about them from the environment perspective.  Maybe we really are responsible for our own health.

This is why it is important to drink good water, get a great night’s sleep, get enough exercise, meditate, take time for yourself, alkalize your body and all those other things that therapists and healers tell you to do.

I won’t cheapen this with links to products or anything like that because this information is too important.  You can find them if you read my other posts anyway.  I would like your comments though.  What do you think about this?  Let’s start a dialog and see where it goes.

I AM Statements vs. Affirmations

Today I want to focus on mental wellness. You’ve been told about how powerful affirmations are, but have you heard of I AM statements?

Affirmations are statements of what you want to do, be, or have and they work for some and don’t seem to for others. I think the people who get them to work are those who have figured out that they need to write their affirmations in the present tense, as if they were true right now and add in emotion and gratitude. Like Bob Proctor’s statement: “I am so happy and grateful now that…

That leads to I AM statements. I think I heard about this form of affirmation originally from James Ray and most recently at another personal growth seminar. I AM statements are more of a personal declaration than a goal or affirmation and are therefore more powerful. You start them with “I AM”, “I AM DOING”, or “I HAVE”. They are very much right now. When you say “I AM…” you are firmly telling your subconscious mind exactly how you see yourself right now and it really has no choice but to create that right now. It is very cool stuff. Of course, like any other affirmation, you want to read them and say them out loud two or more times a day, preferably before you fall asleep and right after you wake up in the morning.

You can take them another step and have them printed on a card and mailed to yourself.  Choose a card with an inspirational picture on the front then list all of your I AM statements on the inside.  My wife found a great online service that does this for a fraction of the cost of a regular card.  If you go to her site at www.meaningfulmail.com and leave your name and email address in her contact form she will pay for your first card.  Check it out.

What You Drink Affects Acid Blood

Do you know someone who has problems with acid blood?  What you drink can have a big impact on your blood pH level.

Why should you care about blood pH?  Our bodies are designed to live happy and healthy in a narrow, slightly alkaline pH range.  If we get much outside of that range we start to get sick, develop chronic problems, and will eventually die if we don’t correct it quickly.

Our bodies will do everything in their power to maintain our pH level.  If the blood is acidic, then it uses certain minerals, like calcium to buffer the acid in the blood, and those minerals are stored in the bones.  So if the body becomes too acidic, and there isn’t enough calcium available in our blood, then the calcium has to come from the bones.  I don’t want to mention specific diseases, but you probably know the one that is caused by not enough calcium in the bones.

There are two solutions to acidic blood.  More calcium and less acid.  I recommend both, and that brings us back to what you drink.  Soft drinks, whether you call them soda, pop, or whatever else, are HIGHLY acidic.  So acidic that I have heard that people use them to clean the terminals on car batteries.  So acidic that they are used to scour the floors in warehouses.  So acidic that it takes about 30 glasses of water to neutralize it.  Don’t worry, I know how hard it is to give these up.  My father used to work for Coke and then he worked for Pepsi.

A lot of bottled water is acidic too.  Not as bad as the sodas but not good when you are looking for something to help you get alkaline.  Reverse osmosis, which is used by most purified bottled waters, leaves the water so pure that it then pulls carbon dioxide out of the air, forming carbonic acid in the water.  Go ahead and test it with a test kit if you don’t believe me.  I was surprised the first time I did it.  A good water filter with mineral rocks will clean the water and put enough minerals in it to make it alkaline and taste good.  It will also save you a fortune by not buying soda and bottled water.

Raw veggies will help you alkalize too.

I can also recommend a quality, tested bone density supplement and a calcium supplement.

Boost Your Immune System

How is your immune system doing for you?  Right now I am watching to a video from David Wolfe, who is considered to be one of the leading authorities on nutrition,  about how important it is to take care of the immune system.  He spent a good part of the video talking about a specific class of herbs that are very important to boost the immune system.  These herbs are the medicinal mushrooms.  He said that these are the mushrooms that grow on fallen trees.  What they do is work to concentrate certain minerals that the trees have absorbed throughout their lifetime, which can exceed 100 years.

He mentioned 5 specific mushrooms to look for.  Reishi, Maitake, Shiitake, Agaricus, and Coriolus to look for when looking to boost your immunity.

David Wolfe also mentioned how they also contain a lot of protein and can affect other systems like the nervous system and brain function as well as the blood and heart.  Very cool stuff.

If you would like to see the video, go to http://www.longevitynowprogram.com/news/immunity/.

I take a mushroom supplement that has 4 of the mushrooms David talks about plus 10 more for a total of 14 medicinal mushrooms.  Click here for the Immunity supplement.

Reverse Osmosis Systems are Wasteful

I have always heard that reverse osmosis water purification systems are wasteful, but I had no idea how wasteful they really were until today.

I work with a network marketing company that sells water filters among other things, so I decided to do some research about other water filtration systems for your home.  Of course, I’m hoping that when I’m done all of the evidence will say you should buy mine, but I’m trying to keep an open mind about what I find.

I had to share what I found out about how wasteful reverse osmosis systems are.  Did you know that household RO systems are only 5-15% efficient.  That means that up to 95% of the water going into the system goes straight down the drain.  For every 100 gallons of water that goes into the system, you will get 5 to 15 gallons of clean water and the remaining water is flushed down the drain. I was absolutely astounded.

Fortunately, industrial systems, which have higher pressures,  are closer to 48% efficient, which is still terrible, but at least they get almost half of the water to use.

My gravity water filter is nearly 100% efficient. Sometimes I spill a little. 😉

Are You Showering in Chlorine?

Do you have a shower water filter?

You probably make sure that your drinking water is filtered because you know that you don’t want to drink chlorinated water.  Some people even shower after swimming to rinse off the chlorine from the pool (which is pointless because the chlorine has already been absorbed by the skin and there is probably more chlorine in the shower water, unless it is filtered).

Chlorine is absorbed very quickly and easily by the skin, especially when it is heated.  Heat opens the pores and relaxes the skin.  The heat in a shower makes it easier for the chlorine to escape the water and become a free gas that we breathe in as well.

Chlorine can cause all sorts of problems, such as dry skin and hair.  It can irritate the eyes and the ears.  Breathed in, it can irritate the breathing passages, especially if you already have breathing challenges.

If you would like a recommendation, the shower head I use does a great job at neutralizing the chlorine in the water so that your shower water is clean and safe.

Chemical Interactions in Food Ingredients

I’m with a network marketing company that, among other things, sells a nutritional juice product.  I received an email this morning from my upline that made me think about artificial additives in our food.  Someone had asked our MLM company if they could share the difference between our juice product with the juice product from a competitor.

It turns out that the competitor’s juice, which contains a lot of vitamin C, also contains sodium benzoate as a preservative.  Sodium benzoate can interact with vitamin C and form benzene, an organic solvent that is known to cause cancer and liver damage.

My point here is not to bash the other company and their product, which is why I have not named them, but to point out that we need to be very careful when buying food to really think about added chemicals and how they may react with each other and the food they are added to.  I strongly encourage you to look at organic and all-natural versions of food.  They may be more expensive in the short term but can save you a lot in the long-term.

I saw this quote from Joel Salatin, the founder of Polyface Farms, on Facebook recently. “If you think organic food is expensive, have  you priced cancer lately?”

EFT – Emotional Freedom Technique

Have you been working toward a goal but can’t seem to ever achieve it?  You’ve been dieting but the weight doesn’t go away.  Doing the right things in your business but the money isn’t coming.  You’ve been trying to live the Law of Attraction but nothing is happening.

The problem could be that you are resisting what you are trying to achieve.  EFT, or Emotional Freedom Techniques could be the answer.  I was introduced to EFT recently by Bob Doyle (from The Secret) through his Wealth Beyond Reason program and it is truly amazing.  The basic idea is that you can clear out the resistance  by tapping certain points on the body’s meridian system while repeating various phrases about whatever is holding you back.  I know it sounds pretty crazy but it really works.

Carol Look is an EFT practitioner who Bod Doyle often works with. You can find out more about EFT from her book – Attracting Abundance with EFT.

Is Sugar Sapping Your Power?

sugar saps strengthI read an interesting article recently about Candida overgrowth. Candida is a yeast that lives in our digestive tracts and we do just fine with it there because it is kept in check by other bacteria that also live there. Sometimes it can get out of control when we take antibiotics, which kill the good bacteria that keep the candida in check, and/or eat too much sugar, which causes it to grow out of control. This is “candida overgrowth”. When out of balance, the candida will cause you to crave sugar and will sap your energy so that you always feel tired among other things.

The article suggested a test to determine if you have candida overgrowth.  First thing in the morning before you brush your teeth or have anything to eat or drink, fill a clear glass with water.  Gather the saliva in your mouth and drop it into the water.  After about 20 minutes or so check to see if your saliva has started to stream down into the water in strands (kind of like jellyfish tentacles).  If so, you may have an overgrowth.  Kinda gross, I know.

To get rid of it, the article says you need to cut all sugars from your diet for a month or two to starve the candida out.  That removes just about everything from your diet except for vegetables and protein.  Then start taking a probiotic supplement to help rebuild the good bacteria in your body to get the candida under control again.

There you have it.  Now for the disclaimer.  I’m not a doctor and neither is the author of the article that this information came from (which is the first article in the May 2009 issue of The Magnetic Sponsoring Innercircle Magazine).  Always check with your doctor before you radically change your diet.
