Drug Trials Neglect Children

I received this article from the International Business Times about Drug Trials Neglect Children in my email today. It is more than a little disturbing.

Some researchers at Children’s Hospital in Boston reviewed nearly 2500 drug trials and found that only 12% of them focused on children. They also found that the relatively few studies that did focus on children tended to be single-center rather than multi-center calling into question their applicability to a more general population.

As if that wasn’t enough, the researchers found that most of the pediatric trials did not sufficiently examine the safety outcomes. They said that kids often respond differently to drugs and their side effects. Instead of having reliable information from clinical trials, pediatricians have to “extrapolate data from adult drug studies” to determine dosage for kids. I interpret that as they have to guess.

From my experience I have found it to be much safer to focus on prevention and keep my kids healthy with clean drinking water and real food for nutrition. Everything I have read says that staying active, drinking plenty of clean alkaline water, and getting good nutrition will help the body to stay alkaline and increase their resistance to illness.

PS. The water filter and the nutritional supplements that my kids use are here.
